What To Do Before Emergency HVAC Service Arrives

Taking a few simple steps before your technician arrives can help protect your HVAC system and make the repair process more efficient. If you believe your equipment is unsafe, turn it off and avoid attempting repairs yourself.

  • Check Your Thermostat Settings. Make sure your thermostat is set to the correct mode and temperature before assuming the system has failed.

  • Inspect The Circuit Breaker. A tripped breaker may prevent your heating or cooling system from operating. If the breaker continues to trip, leave it off and wait for a technician.

  • Replace A Dirty Air Filter. A severely clogged air filter can restrict airflow and contribute to heating or cooling problems. Installing a clean filter may improve system performance in some situations.

  • Turn The System Off If You Notice Burning Odors. If you smell something burning or hear unusual electrical sounds, shut the system down to help prevent additional damage until it can be inspected.

  • Make Note Of Any Warning Signs. Pay attention to unusual noises, error codes, leaks, or when the problem started. Sharing these details can help your technician diagnose the issue more efficiently.

What Does An HVAC Emergency Look Like?

Not every heating or cooling problem requires immediate service, but some situations shouldn’t wait until the next business day. If your HVAC system stops working during extreme temperatures, begins making loud or unusual noises, produces burning odors, leaks excessively, or repeatedly trips the circuit breaker, it’s time to schedule emergency service. These issues can leave your home unsafe or uncomfortable and may lead to additional damage if they’re not addressed promptly.

When you experience an HVAC emergency, our technicians respond quickly to diagnose the problem and restore your system’s operation. We’ll identify the cause of the malfunction, explain the necessary repairs, and work efficiently to get your heating or cooling system running again so your home can return to a safe, comfortable temperature.

Had Harris out to do an assessment on my heater and the technician Chris found a dangerous situation with my heater exchanger that could have slowly put carbon monoxide into my house. I’m grateful that Lee was able to come to the house right away and provide me selections and options. I was able to get a new HVAC system the next day and my family can safely sleep in our home. Everyone from Mathew and Chris M to Lee and the install guys, Louis, Mike and Jhar were amazing and genuinely great people I would have in my home any time.

I was quite satisfied with meeting with Josh, yesterday. While I didn't care for the price, I had to expect things would be that high of a cost. Still, Josh's professional conduct while he was inspecting my tank made it that much easier to say, "yes," and go ahead with the installation request. I am not concerned, at this point, about the job itself. The heater installation, earlier this year was very nicely done and the unit is working great.

The technician first of all was polite, he put his booties on. And I appreciate that because I have hardwood floors original. The technician looked at the situation was able to fix the issue and showed me what can be another possible problem if not addressed.

Requested same day service in the AM and Scott was at the house by 3:00. He was very knowledgeable and professional, making sure that he understood what I wanted regarding the outdoor outlet and the line to it. He worked quickly and left the patio cleaner than when he arrived. I would highly recommend Harris for electrical work.
