Outlets and switches are among the most frequently used parts of your electrical system. When they loosen, stop working, spark, feel warm, or no longer meet the way your home uses electricity, they need professional attention.

Harris Plumbing, Heating, Air & Electrical provides switch and outlet repair, replacement, and installation throughout Chester, Delaware, Montgomery, and Bucks Counties. We correct unsafe devices, add electrical access where it is needed, and make sure each installation is properly connected to the circuit behind it.

Repairing Damaged or Unreliable Devices

A dead outlet or unresponsive switch may be caused by the device itself, but it can also point to loose wiring, a failed connection, a tripped protective device, or a problem elsewhere on the circuit.

We repair switches and outlets that are:

  • Loose, cracked, or physically damaged

  • Warm, discolored, or producing a burning odor

  • Sparking or making buzzing sounds

  • No longer holding plugs securely

  • Working intermittently

  • Completely without power

  • Causing lights or connected equipment to flicker

Our electricians test the device and circuit before replacing anything. That helps us correct the actual failure rather than installing a new outlet over a wiring problem that remains unresolved.

Sparks, heat, smoke, or exposed wiring should be handled promptly. When the condition appears dangerous, contact an emergency electrician.

Outlet Replacement and Upgrades

Older outlets can wear out through years of daily use. Plugs may fall out easily, internal connections may loosen, and older two-prong devices may no longer support the equipment homeowners use today.

We replace damaged or outdated outlets with devices suited to the room and circuit. This may include grounded receptacles, tamper-resistant outlets, weather-resistant outdoor devices, USB outlets, or other approved options.

Replacing a two-prong outlet with a three-prong device does not automatically create a grounded connection. We inspect the wiring and explain what is required for a safe, proper upgrade.

Adding Outlets Where Your Home Needs Them

Many older homes were built with fewer outlets than modern households require. The result is often heavy dependence on extension cords, power strips, and inconvenient wiring across rooms.

We install additional outlets for:

  • Home offices and workstations

  • Wall-mounted televisions

  • Bedrooms and living areas

  • Kitchen counters and islands

  • Finished basements

  • Garages and workshops

  • Outdoor living spaces

  • Appliances and dedicated equipment

Before adding a device, we determine whether the existing circuit can support the added use or whether a new circuit should be installed.

For higher-demand equipment, the project may also require evaluation of the electrical panel.

GFCI and AFCI Protection

Certain areas of the home require added protection against electrical hazards.

GFCI devices help reduce shock risk in locations where electricity and moisture may come into contact, including kitchens, bathrooms, garages, basements, laundry areas, and outdoor spaces. AFCI protection helps detect certain electrical arcing conditions that can develop in damaged or deteriorating wiring.

We install, replace, and test these devices and determine whether repeated tripping is caused by a faulty outlet, connected equipment, moisture, wiring damage, or another circuit problem.

A protective device that continues tripping should not simply be bypassed or replaced with a standard outlet.

Switch Repair and Replacement

A switch that crackles, feels loose, works intermittently, or becomes warm should be inspected. The problem may be limited to the switch or involve the wiring, fixture, dimmer, fan, or other equipment it controls.

We repair and replace standard switches, dimmers, three-way switches, timer controls, occupancy sensors, and other residential controls. New devices are matched to the connected electrical load so lighting and equipment operate correctly.

When the switch controls a ceiling fan or light fixture that also needs service, we can coordinate the work with our ceiling fan or lighting services.

Kitchens, Bathrooms, and Outdoor Areas

Switches and outlets in kitchens, bathrooms, garages, and exterior areas face different conditions than devices in bedrooms or living rooms.

Moisture exposure, appliance demand, outdoor weather, and frequent use all affect which devices and protective features are appropriate. Our electricians install equipment designed for the location and verify that the circuit provides the required protection.

Outdoor outlets may also require weather-resistant devices, approved covers, and secure mounting to protect the connection from rain, snow, and seasonal temperature changes.

Electrical Devices in Eastern Pennsylvania Homes

Homes throughout Eastern Pennsylvania often contain a mix of original wiring and newer electrical improvements. Older properties in Delaware and Montgomery Counties may have limited outlets, ungrounded devices, or switches added during past renovations.

Homes across Chester and Bucks Counties may have newer electrical systems but greater demand from home offices, entertainment equipment, finished spaces, workshops, and outdoor living areas.

We evaluate the device within the context of the circuit and home. That allows us to distinguish between a simple worn outlet and a symptom of a larger electrical issue.

Electrical Work Backed by Experience

We have served homeowners since 1986 and provide residential electrical service through licensed and insured professionals. Our electricians explain the work before it begins, provide upfront pricing, and stand behind the repairs and installations completed in your home.

With local service throughout Chester, Delaware, Montgomery, and Bucks Counties, we understand the mix of older wiring, renovated properties, and modern electrical demand found across Eastern Pennsylvania.

As a full-service electrical company, we can also address panel capacity, lighting, generators, surge protection, inspections, and other needs connected to the project.

Had Harris out to do an assessment on my heater and the technician Chris found a dangerous situation with my heater exchanger that could have slowly put carbon monoxide into my house. I’m grateful that Lee was able to come to the house right away and provide me selections and options. I was able to get a new HVAC system the next day and my family can safely sleep in our home. Everyone from Mathew and Chris M to Lee and the install guys, Louis, Mike and Jhar were amazing and genuinely great people I would have in my home any time.

I was quite satisfied with meeting with Josh, yesterday. While I didn't care for the price, I had to expect things would be that high of a cost. Still, Josh's professional conduct while he was inspecting my tank made it that much easier to say, "yes," and go ahead with the installation request. I am not concerned, at this point, about the job itself. The heater installation, earlier this year was very nicely done and the unit is working great.

The technician first of all was polite, he put his booties on. And I appreciate that because I have hardwood floors original. The technician looked at the situation was able to fix the issue and showed me what can be another possible problem if not addressed.

Requested same day service in the AM and Scott was at the house by 3:00. He was very knowledgeable and professional, making sure that he understood what I wanted regarding the outdoor outlet and the line to it. He worked quickly and left the patio cleaner than when he arrived. I would highly recommend Harris for electrical work.
